4 Quick Steps to Improve Interview Audio in Adobe Audition
Here is how I quickly improve my speech audio in Adobe Audition CC 2015
Step 1: Duplicate and Import
Duplicate the original since all changes will be permanent. You can also use the "Edit in Audition" feature in Adobe Premiere Pro.
Step 2: Enhance
Choose: Effects > Special > Vocal Enhancer...
Then choose the Male or Female Preset to enhance the tones for the typical human voice and reduce all sound above and below those frequencies. I would recommend saving both options to "Favorites" for future use.
Step 3: Normalize
Choose: Favorite > Normalize to -3db
This adjusts the overall audio of the track to an appropriate level.
Step 4: Reduce Noise
To remove any constant background noise. Find a five second portion of audio without any speaking.
Choose: Effects > Noise Reduction/Restorations > Capture Noise Print
Then deselect your section so you can effect the track as a whole.
Choose: Effects > Noise Reduction/Restorations > Noise Reduction (process)...
Adjust the strength to what sounds best. Too much and your audio will begin to break apart and sound tiny or robotic.
Noise Reduction: 75% and Reduce by: 10db seems to be close what I choose for most projects.
Thats it!
Sometimes sometimes more need to be done to raise and lower certain sections or specific sound removal. This is just a quick starting point that can be applied to the whole track.
I would love to hear what other tools you all found to be helpful in enhancing speech, built into Audition.
