Edelkron Slider Plus with Motion Control Unit Review

I’ve actually been traveling all over the US and Africa with this set up for over a year now.

What initially attracted me to this slider was its ability to extend twice as far as its length.  This makes it compact and light, perfect for travel. Such a genius idea! I love the ingenuity of the guys over at Edelkrone.

The build quality of the slider is rock solid.

I can’t say the same about the motion control unit. It’s made of plastic, which is nice for weight. But the connections end up wearing out and are really tough on your fingers to get on and off. I actually ended up breaking off the control knob on a shoot in Tanzania. Fortunately, Edelkrone offers a lifetime warranty on all of its motion units and the slider for around $100. So they sent me a replacement when I got home.

The motion control unit offers a ton of great features; in addition to the standard mode it can do photo and video time-lapses, as well as macro slides.

The battery life is fantastic and they offer interchangeable plates for Canon, Panasonic, and Sony. With two cannon batteries I can use it all day long. The unit consumes very little power so I’ll actually leave it on all day once I set the left to right motion.

The motion is smoother than any slider I’ve used. Both when using handheld or the motion control unit.

I would recommend using the fabric belt and going handheld if you don’t need macro shots. Especially if shooting an event. I wouldn’t recommend the motion control unit in fast passed environments such as wedding without being very comfortable withe the unit. I also wouldn’t recommend using the rubber belt for handheld, as it is not as smooth. The rubber gear belt also slips gears sometimes when setting up the wizard mode.

The biggest downside of the unit is the fact that there is a bit of play in the tripod base when you use it locked off, though it is not incredibly noticeable it is annoying and may have to be removed in some situations.

Edelkrone offers a nice travel case for added protection, however I feel like a lot of their accessories are overpriced. Rather then nickel and dimming it really should have been included.

Like I said...

I’ve been using it for over a year and absolutely love it!
