Best Audio Recorder For Lav Mics: TASCAM DR-10L
Using a Wired Setup for Events
I've come to prefer running my lavalier microphones straight into a portable recorder instead or a wireless setup. In fact, I've often adopted this setup for interviews in controlled environments when rushed for time.
Pros
It's less expensive, considering you need less gear. The sound guys will love you since you don't need to worry about interfering with their wireless channels. As more and more devices take over the airwaves it can be difficult to find clear channels in a busy city.
TASCAM DR-10L
The Lav recorder I've been dreaming about! It's got the form factor and tons of safety features that give you peace of mind when you are unable to monitor it.
Small
What I love most is the size. It is able to clip onto a belt or fit in a suit or pants pocket comfortably. It has a locking mic input to keep the Lav from coming loose. I consider it the most important feature and what excludes a lot or recorders from being a viable option just because they can't be hidden and worn comfortably.
Secure
Another amazing feature is the ability to record a backup track 12 decibels lower. It's saved me from peeking plenty of times and you don't have to turn on an auto feature that introduces noise when things should be silent. The power button is a recessed hold switch which prevents any accidental bumps and with just one AAA it'll go for hours.
Other Features
- Plug-in Power
- Records 24-bit/96kHz WAV
- Comes with LAV
